Forces act on objects and have both a strength and a direction. An object at rest has balanced forces acting on it. Unbalanced forces cause objects to change speed or direction. Patterns in motion can be observed, measured, and used to predict future motion. Forces are exerted when objects come in contact, however some forces, like gravity, magnetism, and electricity, can act from a distance.
