Hi! My name is Maya Finlay & I’m running for artist because I love to draw. Drawing is something that’s always come to me naturally, and being able to show my school spirit throughout my artwork has always been a goal of mine. In office I hope to make posters/signage clear and easy to understand, but also strong and intricate. Some qualifications I have is being featured in the black frame artwork gallery, and taking every given art class in Jr. High school. I plan to represent cottonwood in a positive way by being someone that people can trust and rely on. Vote Maya for Sophomore artist!
Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
Initiatives I’d work on if I was elected are building understanding and connections through artwork. I want Cottonwood to feel like a safe place for everyone where they can be understood and heard, while building school spirit and pride.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
To be a colt is to be a part of a group of people that care and support each other. It’s important we surround ourselves with people that understand one another, as well as lifting each other up.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
A way I would develop activities to make everyone feel included and welcome is by creating posters that clearly outline what’s happening, where it’s happening, and try to get feedback from the student body to create a stronger sense of community.
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
Some advice to stay motivated throughout the school year is to remember if you get it done now, you won’t have to do it later. I struggle with procrastination myself, but the best way to avoid it in my opinion is to do it at a designated time and reward yourself afterwards.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
Qualities that make a good leader are being adaptable and proactive. They don’t freak out when something goes wrong, and they try to find ways to fix the problem instead of dwelling on it.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
I’m a very understanding person, and not quick to judge. When someone has a different opinion I might not agree with, I listen to how they feel instead of jumping to a conclusion.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
I’ve taken nearly every art class I can at every school I’ve attended, as well as my artwork being framed in the art gallery here at Cottonwood.

Task: Create a sample poster (it can be scaled down) to advertise for a Homecoming Dance with a dance theme of your choosing. This needs to be hand drawn. Provide a photo of your poster. Additionally, create 2 different poster examples that can fit on one page for a Sweethearts Dance that the advisor can print and provide to the rest of Student Government to help them create their advertising poster. These can be hand drawn or digital. The other officers are required to help with making dance advertising posters, but many need to be able to copy your designs.
