Question and Answer
When I reflect on what makes Cottonwood the best high school in Utah, I think of the diversity and inclusion throughout our student body, academic programs, and extracurricular achievements. Being one of the most diverse schools in Utah, Cottonwood celebrates people from all different backgrounds and cultures, making everyone feel included. The academic programs that our school provides prepare us for college and beyond. For example, our academy of finance, the language classes we offer, and our CE and AP classes. Finally, our extracurricular achievements from all over the school. From the men's and women's basketball teams winning region three years in a row to the theater taking state for two consecutive years. All of this makes Cottonwood the best high school.
One thing I will do to make everyone in my grade feel valued at school is learn their names. While it’s probably not possible to learn every single person’s name, it’s my personal goal to learn as many people’s names as I can. Even though this is a simple thing, it can really make a difference to a person. There are a lot of people out there that are lonely, sad, or just floating through life feeling like they have no purpose. When someone knows their name, they feel seen. They realize that someone cared enough about them to remember their name. It can really make a person feel less alone. I have experienced this firsthand. Before coming to Cottowood, I was in the Murray School District. I transferred to Cottonwood my freshman year without any of my middle school friends. It seemed like everyone here already knew each other and I felt like an outsider. When people would call me by my name, I felt more included than ever. Just the simple act of using a person’s name can make all the difference.
