I'm running for dance officer because I would be super excited about the creative possibilities of designing dances for school events, and making sure that events like homecoming or Prom are the best moments of peoples lives. I want to bring my own personal ideas for the dances sense ive gone to almost all of them to show ways we can make the dances more engaging and memorable. I have many experience in designing and setting up for things like this from my drill team. I love being able to use my creative flow and come up with ideas. I believe that it is crucial for planning and giving a very successful event. I'm a great team player and love hearing others suggestions to make everyones personal ideas play apart in the things we are creating. I love getting feedback from others on their opinions of what to add or to change. To represent CHS I will focus on creating a fun moment for everyone. I would love to get ideas or suggestions from others people of what they think could add excitement to the event. I would love to seek new ways to incorporate student feedback in the planning process, the theme, and a true event that represent cottonwood and the people here.
Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
One- I would want to start including all students opinion in event planning. That could be creating a google form sheet where people can submit their ideas for dance themes, places to hold it, or dj wise. So then the officers can take opinions from the students to make the event become engaging for everyone.
Two- I would like to enhance our school spirit. That could be through Spirit events or fundraisers or anything to help people love and become involved in school. As I said for the dance planning making a google form for people to fill out we could be oppinion on dress up day Ideas, fundraiser Ideas, school football game activitys during the game. Things to make all the students feel excited to engage in all the activites our school provides.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
What being a colt means to me is being proud in who you are and not scared to be the real you. I think that to be a colt you have to be kind and caring to others, even if others are mean to you, you should show that you are the bigger person and care about being someone people can look up to. Wether thats being kind, or wearing something others might make fun of, or cheering when no one is. I think being a colt is showing the real you and the kind you.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
I want to focus on creating activites that include interacting with others and adding stuff with everyones different interests. I want actives that can make people share their own unique perspectives and experiences. I think that if we make activies that many people like then is can create a welcoming enviornment for those students to join and be themselves.
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
I have struggled with attendance myself due to feeling alone and exhaustion, but I truly regret it. I want to make the people around me proud. Even if thats one tiny task into a good direction it is good to know there are people around me, that are proud of me and cheering me on even when it's hard. I think my motivation to help students go to class is to tell them that you are missing the most memorable and best times with the people you care about in class. yes the work is stressful and hard but doing the works helps you so much in life. Just simply showing up to a class you don't go to might be hard but it will make so many people proud. You have people around you who want to help you and want you to be there. So make those people around you proud. Even when it's hard you have so many people cheering you on and proud of the steps you make.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
I think some qualities that make a good leader are a team player. If you think only about yourself and what you want it will make it very hard for the people you work with to want to be with you. You have to put in the effort to listen to the others and take their opinions because their opinions matter just as much as yours. I think that you need to have a positive attitude. If you come into class everyday being grouchy because something happened that will put a bad effect on you while you work, and the others around you. And last to be a great leader you need to have respect and kindness. If you are kind to people and treat people in a good way they are going to want you as a leader because you show them kindness and it shows you respect them. If you are mean to them and disregard everything they say it is going to leave a bad review about you and no one will want you as leader or to listen to you because you make them feel bad an unheard. there for I think a great leader needs to be a team player, positive attitude, with respect and kindness.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
I think that one of my leadership quality is being a team player. I am happy when people give me feedback in what I can change or an opinion they have. I like when people are open and honest with me. I want other people to feel happy about the ideas they come up with and be able to bring it up with out feeling nervous or scared their opinion won't matter. I want people to feel proud in their ideas and comfortable in telling me them. I think that would make me a good Class Officer because I want people to feel that they can positively and honestly work with me in a group. I think that is one of my leadership qualities.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
Some of the qualifications I have for this position are I am very creative. Any time I am put to a task using creative skills I am able to picture the design with the themes, decorations, and information provided to make a fun and happy space. I love being able to have a creative flow and put together partys and things like this. I have experience with it through drill. I love helping my coach set up for our banquettes, showcase, or little events because it is something I find So much joy in. I have helped so many people decorate and set things up for partys and it is something I think I am very good at. I have been a craftie, hands on, and decrotive person for as long as I can remember. I think that I would be a very good fit in this position for those reasons.
Theme- Theres no place like homecoming!
I think that having it the commons would be a good location because theres no weather conflicts and big open space for many students. The decor will work well in the commons because there is lots of structure to hang things and set things up on. The Dj will be someone from the local community. I think away to tie in good music selection is make it so the students can send messages of song requests so everyone can have their own music enjoyment. I think this creates a good space for all the students because they spend a lot of time there and they can have their own say on certain things at the dance. I also think based of space wise it will be nice to have decor that ties the place together and make everyone feel welcomed and excited to be there.
