I'm running for Class Artist because art has become a way for me to express myself and I would love to have the opportunity to inspire other people. Making our school a place where everyone feels included, heard, and excited to be involved. I'm organized, responsible, and always willing to listen to new ideas to line our hallways with our spirit, pride, and diverse culture. I want to be one of the people who makes sure our year is memorable for everyone.
Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
I am aiming to make the school a more colorful and bright place and to showcase the diverse cultures that are here at Cottonwood.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
Being a Colt means being a part of a community. It means there is a web of support. It means challenging myself academically to be the best I can be.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
The reasons people don't feel included may be language barriers, lack of information, and not being aware that they are invited. We can develop these activities so that everyone feels welcome by making posters with the languages spoken at our school, explicitly saying that everyone is welcome, and by putting all information such as dress, date, and time on the posters in hopes to decrease anxiety.
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
The future is so very bright right now. Many things are in store for us, like jobs, scholarships, and leadership roles. But as we get older, we lose opportunities to learn and prepare for what is to come in life. By taking opportunities that Cottonwood offers, and by striving to be the best student you can be, we can create habits for the future. By attending class and submitting work on time, we are helping our future selves. Even if it's hard, it'll prove to be worth it.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
One of the first steps to being a good leader is being a clear communicator. When there is confusion, contention seems to arise. Another key quality of a leader is trustworthiness. A group can't stand on unstable ground. A leader should also have integrity. Most matters will be handled by the leadership, so it is important that they are able to handle it levelheadedly and with the best interest in mind. So, good communication skills, trustworthiness, and integrity are important qualities of a great leader.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
I am trustworthy and dependable. This would help in a class officer role to create surety around my fellow peer leaders.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
I have many years of experience creating artwork and designs. This experience will help me in designing and creating new posters to line the halls with more spirit and color, and to create a more inclusive environment for our Colts!

Task: Create a sample poster (it can be scaled down) to advertise for a Homecoming Dance with a dance theme of your choosing. This needs to be hand drawn. Provide a photo of your poster. Additionally, create 2 different poster examples that can fit on one page for a Sweethearts Dance that the advisor can print and provide to the rest of Student Government to help them create their advertising poster. These can be hand drawn or digital. The other officers are required to help with making dance advertising posters, but many need to be able to copy your designs.
