My name is Indie Hoggan, and I'm running for Senior Dance Officer because I enjoy helping create fun, memorable experiences that bring students together. I believe school dances are a big part of building school spirit, and I want to help make them exciting, inclusive, and something everyone looks forward to.
As Dance Officer, I would help plan themes, coordinate decorations, and help make playlists to create a fun and inclusive environment at all the dances. I also think it's important for all dances to feel welcoming for everyone, so I would try and include ideas and music that represents different interests across the whole student body.
I'm someone who is dependable and easy to work with, and I take my responsibilities seriously. I would do my best to help organize dances that bring people together and help build lots of school spirit at Cottonwood.
Thank you for your consideration.
Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
If elected, I want to focus on creating more inclusive playlists for all the dances, so that everyone hears music they actually enjoy. And I'd make sure all different styles and cultures of music are represented. I also want to improve the overall vibe of the dances by helping choose fun themes and coordinating decorations and photo booths so each dance feels unique and exciting.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
To me, being a Colt means showing pride in our school and supporting the people around us. I think it means working hard, being respectful, and helping contribute to a positive environment where students feel connected, welcomed, and proud to represent Cottonwood High School.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcomed and included?
One way I would help make everyone feel included is by making sure the music and themes at dances represent a wide variety of students. I would ask for input and song suggestions so more people feel like they belong at these events. When students hear music they like and see their interests represented, it makes dances a lot more welcoming and fun for everyone.
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
I think that staying motivated starts with setting goals and staying organized so schoolwork feels manageable. I also believe that you won't always be motivated; however, I do believe that you can always be disciplined and accountable, allowing for multiple things to be accomplished.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
Great leaders are responsible, positive, and supportive of others. They communicate well, work as part of a team, and lead by example by doing their best and encouraging others to do the same.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
One leadership quality I have is reliability. When I commit to something, I follow through and do my best work. This will help me be a good Class Officer because I will take my responsibilities seriously and work hard to help make school events successful and represent Cottonwood in a positive way.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
I'm creative, organized, and reliable, which are all important for planning events like dances. I work well with others and can help coordinate things like music and decorations to make sure everything runs smoothly. I'm someone who always follows through on what I say i'll do. And more than that, I just really care about making sure people feel included and actually have fun. I want dances to be something everyone can enjoy and feel comfortable going to.
Task: Develop a Homecoming Dance theme that fosters unity among the Cottonwood High School student body. Explain how the chosen location, décor, music selection, and DJ coordination will work together to create an engaging, inclusive, and memorable experience for all students.
The dance will be held in the commons, since it has an open and social feel to it. It will be set up with the actual dance part in the middle, seating on the side, and fun photo areas. These all work together so students can choose what they want to do to have a fun time and be comfortable with what they are doing. With it being in the commons it allows some people to dance, with others can sit and talk with friends or take pictures, which overall makes the night feel more open and welcoming to everyone.
The decor for this dance will mix a tropical island look with some gold accents for Cottonwood. It will include things like string lights, greenery, gold details, and some blue to give an island feel. The blue and gold will be things like balloons, stremers, and fun tissue paper. A photo backdrop will also be set up so people have a spot to take fun pictures. And all of these decorations will work together to set the mood the second people walk in and make the commons feel a lot more fun and exciting.
The music will be a mix of songs that most people know and enjoy. Instead of focusing on just one style, it will include popular songs, throwbacks, and all different types of music so more people can hear something they like. Some of the songs will match the theme, but the main goal is to play music that people can just sing along and vibe with. This helps more students feel included and keeps the energy fun throughout the night.
The DJ will help keep the night going by playing a good mix of music and keeping the energy up. They'll pay attention to the crowd and play songs that people know and are actually enjoying, so it doesn't feel awkward or slow. Overall, the DJ will help tie everything together and keep the energy fun the whole night.
Everything in the dance is planned to connect and create a good experience for everyone. The decorations set the vibe as soon as people walk in, the music keeps the energy up, and having it be held in the commons give people a familiar location, which gives different ways everyone can enjoy the night. And at the same time, the DJ keeps everthing flowing so it doesn't feel awkeward or random. All of this works together to make the dance feel more comfortable, fun, and welcoming, so more students can come and enjoy it however they want.
