I chose to run for class president simply because I love cottonwood. I love that the diversity makes us strong. I love that our spirit remains unfaltered. and I love the amazing potential this school has. as I got to experience this last year as Freshman vice president, I was able to see just how much a person can achieve at cwood. my primary objective of leadership is not to bring greatness to cottonwood, but to kindle it. the greatness is already here.

Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
as a class officer i want to really push the inclusion initiative. as i have said below i truly believe that cottonwood has access to amazing potential through its diversity. simply listening to the people you serve can go a long way, even if you don't notice it. not just class officers, but all sophomores at cottonwood. as well as inclusion i hope to improve the excitement at events. as president, i will try to make it to as many activities and events whether they are sponsored by the student government or not. sometimes having a big oaf to help support and enjoy helps just a little.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
to be a colt means to be strong in many ways. as a colt you recognize the the strongest aspect of cottonwood is its diversity. with a large variety of talents and backgrounds. as a colt you are part of something, part of cottonwood, and that's amazing. a colt can be good at many things but we wax strong in our spirit for our school. no matter the outcome it still feels like cottonwood is winning, simply because we believe. colts believe.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
there are many different levels that go into planning an activity for cottonwood. but through it all some of your best inspiration will always come from simply asking those who you want to participate. people all have different opinions but the dynamic of ideas we have here at cottonwood is such an amazing resource. really listening to what the people want is always going to get you far. (admin are included in that)
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
to be honest attendance sucks sometimes... especially in the winter slog. but i found that even though only a few classes are meant to be fun, there is satisfaction to be found in every class. at cottonwood we have an amazing admin team that are ALWAYS happy to help you find your class when you happen to forget your entire schedule halfway through the term. and sometimes the tall stack of papers looks a lot better when filled with pencil lead. in short, you don't have to enjoy every second of it but you will mostly never regret going to class. its better to charge the storm so you can smell the flowers on the other side.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
a great leader is defined by many things. a good leader can accomplish amazing feats and still make a difference. but a great leader can do that and more. a great leader can take a situation that they have been handed and no matter how dire will still manage to bring it forward into something beautiful. through the process they make everyone feel valued, and heard. a leader prioritizes getting things done and done well. but it takes a great leader to stop and realize that they are only in charge because the people chose them to be. and a great leader will make sure they give back to the people that have given them the privilege of leadership.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
when put in a situation where i have contributed a lot of effort into an event i always find that whether i like it or not i see the reaction people have to it. in planning and in execution i can always tell when someone doesn't feel heard or feels diminished. going into campaigning for president i recognize that all students at cottonwood have a value to contribute. we all have strengths, and to ignore that is to ignore cottonwood's biggest strength. its diversity.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
through my previous experiences i have found that in high stress situations i am still fully able to manage and take care of a team. as president i know i will come in contact with all sorts of situations. but at least i can guarantee that i will get the job done, and done well. no matter what. as well as work ethic, i value the quality of a high school experience for all colts, and that includes the officers i hope to work with. i do my best to recognize and understand the opinions of others. especially in events that i am putting work toward. in short, i hope to perform well in my position by upholding the standards of a class officer as well as getting projects and events taken care of with quality ensured. along with this i will strive to recognize and show the value of the opinions of not only the class officers but every sophomore here at cottonwood.
President
Task: back in middle school we had a little game that we would play that inspired this. in my game you would have as many people as you want, and they would all be holding small pieces of curved cardboard. you would have them line up and place a ping pong ball at the back. as the ball rolls from person to person the participant at the back would have to run to the front in order to continue the ramp before the ball falls or stops. this game requires participants to think smoothly as a team or otherwise lose the game. the players must be one mind and any arguments will compromise the entire operation.
