I am running for Freshman Stampede Officer because I want to make Cottonwood and it's sports more exciting and fun for students. Having a great student section at a game makes all the difference, so while in office, I hope to increase attendance at all Cottonwood sports games. I will do this by advertising games to everyone more and trying to make the student section more enjoyable and prominent at games. I would be a great officer because I am currently an SBO and I love helping my school and supporting students.
Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
If elected, I want to increase student attendance at Cottonwood games. I will do this mainly in two ways. First, I will work toward advertising games more in various new ways. Additionally, I will try to engage the student section more at games by making the themes fun and easy to participate in, and planning awesome tailgates. This will make students feel more inclined to go to games and have more fun while there.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
Being a Colt means being a part of a diverse community in Cottonwood, who contributes by being kind, resilient, and courageous. They strive to serve others and make their community stronger as a whole.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
I would help everyone feel welcomed and included to our Cottonwood sports games by advertising the games more and encouraging everyone to come. If possible, I would also love to have more pep rallies to make everyone excited about our sports and want to go enjoy the games and support our teams.
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
To stay motivated with tasks like academics and attendance, I will strive to see high school as an opportunity to prepare for my future. This will help me to see Cottonwood as a time of preperation and readiness for my life ahead.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
Some qualities that make great leaders include integrity, resilience, accountability, respect, and kindness.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
One of my most prominent leadership qualities is accountability. This will help me be a great Class Officer because my advisors and other officers will be able to count on me to complete tasks and help them with whatever they need help with. This will help build trust and allow us to complete tasks more efficiently by working as a team.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
I am currently an SBO at Bonneville Jr. High, meaning that I know the responsibilities of a Student Government position. Additionally, I love sports and plan on playing on both the basketball and baseball teams. This shows my passion for our student section and will make it easier to plan as a Stampede Officer since I will already know sports schedules.
Task: Create a sample tailgate or student section party for a school sponsored event. Explain how your initiative would encourage student attendance. Additionally, create a list of 10 dress themes that could be used for the student sections at various football and basketball games.
Sample Tailgate:
My example of a tailgate is based after the Tropical theme, or #2 on my list of dress themes. We could have a luau barbecue themed tailgate, where everyone gets a lei. At the center, you can go to the tiki bar to get your meal. There, you can find Hawaiian rice with your choice of pork or chicken. (This could be prepared by volunteers or donated from restaurants if possible. Restaurants like Mo'Bettahs have been known to donate to local schools in the past.) We could set up a shaved ice machine, another classic Hawaiian luau staple. Speakers along the side will be playing classic Hawaiian music to make the vibe truly feel tropical. This tailgate would encourage student attendance because it will be a fun environment for students to dance, talk with others, and enjoy the delicious food. It will make students excited before the game and ready to cheer on our Colts!
