When I decided to run for Cottonwood Dance officer, it was with the purpose of making sure I could help other people in my school have as good of a time as I do. I always wake up in the morning feeling like it's gonna be a great day, and I wanna make sure I can create an experience for my peers that relays the same sense of optimism. I am always keen on going to the dances, and as someone who loves them I want to make sure they are the best they can be. I hope that I can make all of you proud as Cottonwood's resident Dance officer.

Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
Obviously the initiatives I will work on as dance officer are making the dances as fun as they can be. If we are talking new initiatives however, then I want to work on maybe a few dances to learn about new things. Now I could be misinformed and there could be one already, but stuff like a cultural dance could help include all students in the fun. included in this statement is other new dances to help with the school spirit and unity of cottonwood, and or more inclusive themes for the current dances.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
To me being a colt means to be there for your peers. It means to have pride in your school and all the people there, as well as stepping up to help everyone when you are needed.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
As I mentioned previously in question 1, one way to develop activities to make everyone included is to include themes anyone can get behind. With things like a cultural dance, students could bring anything from their culture and any student could participate. Not to mention, themes for current dances could include more themes that can involve a wider variety of people and don't tunnel vision on a specific interest.
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
My best advice to anyone struggling with staying motivated is what my parents have always told me. "As long as you know you have tried your absolute best, then you should always feel proud."
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
Qualities that make a great leader are the ones that show you're willing to step up. Kids that help people without even being asked are great leaders. Kids that give everyone a chance are great leaders. Being kind in general makes a great leader. Making sure you're around the people that influence you positively, and relaying that same energy to everyone else you are around is being a leader.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
According to friends, my best leadership qualities are my willingness to listen to others, my friendly demeanor, and how I always step up to help without being asked.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
I go to every dance
I can do the worm
I am great at planning (events, projects, you name it)
I am very detail oriented so decorations will look great.
I work very well in group settings
Task: Develop a Homecoming Dance theme that fosters unity among the Cottonwood High School student body. Explain how the chosen location, decor, music selection, and DJ coordination will work together to create an engaging, inclusive, and memorable experience for all students.
The theme I have chosen/come up with for a Homecoming Dance is a Candy-land dance. My reasoning for why this fosters unity is because all the different types of candy come together to form the candy kingdom, symbolizing said unity. Students may enjoy coming up with candy or sweet themed outfits, which I am sure there is plenty to work off of (maybe a red and white striped suit to go with candy canes as an example). Decorations will include environment elements from the actual board game as well as ones we come up with ourselves, like a licorice forest for kids to enter to get to the dance. For the venue, I don't see why we can't just use our home turf, Cottonwood High itself. Most kids already have a way to get there since they attend the school anyway, and we would be able to work on bigger decor pieces since we wouldn't have to move them across the city. For music selection, up beat pop would work with the theme, but a mixture can work even better as their are different "flavors" for candy. Although, it would be a fumble to not include "I Want Candy" in the soundtrack. For DJ coordination, all I can really say is we should find a good one that doesn't ruin the vibe. In conclusion, the Candy Land dance will be a fun event that inspires unity and creativity among students through the versatile theme and environment.
