My goal is to make Cottonwood a place where people can be themselves and feel seen. Running for office, and being in office this past year has given me this responsibility. I really love meeting new people and having that voice to make positive change every day. As an officer, I will not only bring kindness, excitement, and responsibility to my role but I will be looking to grow and learn in a Student Government position! I plan to represent CHS by inviting others to step out of their comfort zone, take harder classes, join clubs, and make new friends! A little bravery in everyone really does strengthen communities, sports/art teams, as well as grow our students and community.

Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
There are so many ways I want to help Cottonwood, but the two that I feel most strong about is increasing inclusion as well as recognition for each student. I will do this by talking to each individual, connecting and getting to know as many people as I can. I want to recognize them for their work and for who they are as a person. I also will be an advocate for kindness, inviting those to sit with me or join me for lunch, waving in the halls to all. These are all just a few ways I want to strengthen Cottonwood in a Class Officer position!
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
A Colt is so much more then going to school and passing your classes! It is about having pride in who you are and the drive to grow and lift up others around you. A colt is about cheering on the swim team, or joining the volleyball team and wanting to work hard because you want to represent your school. Its also all the tiny fun moments; driving to woodies for lunch or enjoying a theater production. Being a Colt is more than just being a student, it's being a part of an amazing group of people.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
To develop activities where everyone feels included, I would start by going around and asking all different groups of people what they feel about past ideas, my ideas, and what they feel is needed at our school. Then when planning and practicing, as well as getting people to do my activities, I would be kind, helpful and positive to be around. Sometimes it isn't necessarily the activities itself that determine how a person feels, but how they are treated, and how it is presented to make them feel seen.
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
Personal advice I feel that has motivated me in attendance and academics is just asking myself who and what I want to become as a person. If I'm not striving each day to go to school on time or be respectful to teachers, not only will I fail to do those things in the future, but I know those things will do nothing but hinder my success. It also helps to think, "Who do I want to become, and do the things I do now set me up to become that person?" This is helpful for not just thinking of my few years in high school, but how my actions now affect what I'll be doing later in life.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
I have seen many good leaders in my life. Every leader tends to know when to listen and when to lead. They know when its important to take action, and when empathy is needed and opinion. That balance of being humble enough to hear others while directing everyone in a good direction is truly one of the best qualities from good leaders I've seen. I also have noticed a leader that can see every individual's strengths and weaknesses within a group and utilize those traits makes teams so much better. Though I still have so much of these qualities to work toward, I really do hope to grow and learn through opportunites like Student Government and hopfully become one of those great leaders I look up to.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
I love people. By this I mean getting to know each person, their unique traits and aspects as well as there goals and how they view the world. This has helped me get to know and be brave to talk to many different types of people as well as feel the desire to lead and feel empathy. The past few years as I've grown this skill of getting to know people and seeing them for who they are has helped me learned how people want to be lead and how important it is to strive to give them a voice and representitive that hears the indivdual needs.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
I am very fit for this position! Throughout my time in high school, I've learned how to balance school, volleyball, and piano lessons/teaching piano. These experiences have helped me stay organized, responsible and taught me the importance of time management skills. I also have been and currently in Church Leadership positions through my religion that have taught me how to work with adults as well as how to show up for meetings and finish tasks. I know how to work with students and teachers, as well as am willing to learn and be taught so I may fufill the position of secretary as best I can!

Task: Create a sample list of groups at Cottonwood that could participate in a school assembly and write a sample email asking if they would like to participate. Additionally, create a simple outline of a Homecoming Assembly script. (Typically the Homecoming Assembly involves competition games between grades and includes a dance performance by the combined dance groups.)
