I am running for student government because I love Cottonwood and the community we have at Cottonwood and I want to help grow and improve that community! I love meeting new people and I love being a Colt. Student gov not only gives me the chance to meet new people, but the chance to make an impact. I am running for artist because I have always loved drawing and making art, and I hope to be able to use those talents to better Cottonwood. However, as artist, I won't just focus on the art. I will focus on making cottonwood feel inclusive and fun to everyone. There is nothing I love more than screaming my lungs out at a basketball game, or cheering when we score a touchdown in football. I love Cottonwood and it's community and if you vote me in as artist not only will I make you some amazing posters, I will do everything in my power to help foster that beloved community.
Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
Me personally, I love meeting new people and making friends. So naturally my initiatives would revolve around making Cottonwood feel more inclusive and fun. I would take initiative to make sure that social events such as dances or games have a warm and welcoming feel and I would encourage everyone to come to these activities. I also appreciate the building that we have and all the people who work to maintain it. I would use my artistic abilities to make wonderful posters and I would advocate for more days recognizing all the faculty who help run Cottonwood and keep it GREAT.
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
I think being a Colt embodies being GREAT. There are so many different backgrounds and cultures here at Cottonwood and I think it's important we all not only get along but become friends with one another. I also think it's important that we respect one another and we are kind to everyone.
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
It is so important that everyone feels welcomed and included. I think that cottonwood has a wonderful community that we should always be looking to grow and foster. My goal would be to make sure that everyone feels welcomed and encouraged to go to the social events that cottonwood hosts, whether it be sports games, dances, tailgates, or more. I believe that good posters can really help with that, I am running as artist partially because I want to make those posters and invite people to come to our events!
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
I know more than anyone how easy it is to goof off and not really pay attention. However there is a time and place for everything. These teachers come and spend their day trying to teach us, and a lot of them put in a lot of effort to do so. I also think it's important that we stay motivated because whether you want to go to college, or pursue a career in other places, even if you want a good job, a highschool diploma will help with all of that. So in the long run, staying motivated with attendance and academics will help you.
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
A good leader should be respectful, able to get along with everyone, and they should be kind, helpful, and hardworking.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
I think one of my best qualities is that I'm really extroverted. I can get along with anyone and I love meeting new people and friends. That quality makes me a good leader because I am able to reach out to and get along with everyone, helping people feel included, heard, and respected.
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
I have always enjoyed art, especially drawing. I am blessed to have a wonderful talent and I think I can really help out Cottonwood with this talent, whether it be for posters, dances, or anything else the school needs help with. I also know I'm super social, I think I'll be able to include everyone and help foster that beloved Cottonwood community.
Two Sweethearts posters design
Homecoming poster design
Task: Create a sample poster (it can be scaled down) to advertise for a Homecoming Dance with a dance theme of your choosing. This needs to be hand drawn. Provide a photo of your poster. Additionally, create 2 different poster examples that can fit on one page for a Sweethearts Dance that the advisor can print and provide to the rest of Student Government to help them create their advertising poster. These can be hand drawn or digital. The other officers are required to help with making dance advertising posters, but many need to be able to copy your designs.
