I am running to be class artist and I wanted to run because I really love our school and I want to be more involved with everything! I hope to bring more creativity and fun to all events! I plan to show support to all sports/clubs and make people want to come to things and participate! I hope that everyone can feel like they matter here!
Question #1: What are two initiatives you will work on as a Class Officer next year if you are elected?
Two initiatives I will work on if elected are making sure everyone feels like a part of the school and to get more people to come to the dances! I think that these both go together. If people feel more united and part of the school, then maybe they will want to come spend time with people and have fun. I will try to make sure that everyone feels included and that they matter at Cottonwood. If elected I really want to try to advertise the dances more so that more people come! The dances are always more fun when there's more people there!
Question #2: What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
To me, being a Colt means having school spirit and being involved with anything school related even if it's outside of school. It means showing up and representing our school everyday, for example dressing up for the themes, supporting other teams, showing that I care about being a Colt!
Question #3: What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
One way I would make everyone feel welcome and included is to go out of my way to invite those who maybe don't feel as welcome or involved. When new people do show up I will go talk to them and make them feel like they are valued at that activity. I also think talking to others during activities and getting their input on what they would like to do. As artist, an activity idea I had was to have each student have a small section of a picture of some sort and have them paint/color it and then when everyones is complete, it creates a big picture of everyones together. I think it could show how much it matters to be included!
Question #4: What advice do you have to stay motivated with attendance and academics throughout the year?
It's always better to show up and do nothing then not show up at all. Showing up and getting my work done always makes me feel so much better. It can be hard to be at school but if you don't show up, it can be hard to get caught up and you can feel overwhelmed with everything going on in your life. No one likes to feel like that, that's why it is important to show up and even just try a little bit. There always will be hard times but in the end it will all be worth it!
Question #5: What are some qualities that make a great leader?
Being positive, trustworthy, and having integrity are some very important qualities that make a great leader. If you're a leader, you want to have good postitive energy so that people really want to be around you all the time. You also want people to trust you. When being a leader, people look up to you and they may want to tell you things or ideas that they have. When your a leader, they trust you with this and trust that you will support them. Having integirty is a big one. Having the quality to be honest, take accountabilty, and do something without someone having to tell you to is very important. A leader is an example to everyone. A leader should be setting this example so that everyone following this leader wants to be like them.
Question #6: What is a leadership quality you have and how will it help you be a good Class Officer at Cottonwood?
A leadership quality that I have is positivity. This quality would help me be a good class officer because I think being in the right environment can change everyone and everything around you. If the environement is fun and positive, then it may encourage others to run for student gov, that's one of the reasons that I am choosing to run! When I'm around positive people, it makes me want to follow them, be more like them and just spend more time with them!
Question #7: What specific qualifications do you have for your intended position?
For my intended position, I have good creative and artistic skills that could be used for many good things next year. I love painting and coming up with new ideas. I think this would be helpful in helping create dance posters for the dances and any other events we have at cottonwood. When I draw/paint my ideas, I can really see my whole idea come together how I want. I think that these qualities can help bring more color and fun to all events!
Task: Create a sample poster (it can be scaled down) to advertise for a Homecoming Dance with a dance theme of your choosing. This needs to be hand drawn. Provide a photo of your poster. Additionally, create 2 different poster examples that can fit on one page for a Sweethearts Dance that the advisor can print and provide to the rest of Student Government to help them create their advertising poster. These can be hand drawn or digital. The other officers are required to help with making dance advertising posters, but many need to be able to copy your designs.
