AES Families,

Hello! I am so glad you are visiting my site. The role of the elementary school counselor is to help students reach their potential.  Our program is based on the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs which clearly outlines the role of the school counselor.  The primary responsibility of a school counselor is to counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities. I accomplish this through activities such as lessons on our character traits, career development lessons, individual and group counseling as needed and responsive services such as crisis intervention, community resource referrals and partnering with outside agencies. I love working alongside parents and teachers to help each child achieve.  This is my 12th year as counselor at AES and 23rd year in public education.  My goal is to partner with families to help kids reach their potential and lead happy, healthy lives.

 Sincerely,

 Jill Jernigan, M.Ed., LPC-A
