Homework Assignments and Tests

Binders

AMS students will keep an organized binder including a personal planner that will be checked and graded weekly through a campus wide standard plan within each classroom.

Assignments

All assignments and lesson links will be posted and accessible on Google Classroom. If a student is absent or misses class, they are encouraged to check Google Classroom to get their assignments and lesson links.

Quizzes and Tests -

There will be 1-2 quizzes per week. These will include vocabulary as well as content from the weeks lessons. We will spiral information from previous weeks into these as well to ensure students are retaining what we learn.

There will be 2-3 major tests per grading period.

Cornell Notes

Cornell Notes Short Video - Great explanation that demonstrates how to take Cornell Notes, their organization and how to successfully make use of your notes. This method of note taking is part of our AVID program and will be used throughout the year in various formats.

5 Phases of the Cornell Note Taking Method - This image does an excellent job of explaining the note taking process and is a great companion to the above video.

Homework

Our goal is to assign homework one time per week. There will also be weekly assignments that students will have time to work on in class that will be due beginning of class on Fridays. This assignment will relate to what students are learning in class that week and will be important to any quizzes or tests during the week.

Additional work outside of class will include the following:

Assigned projects / presentations

15-20 minutes reviewing what we learned in class.

Preparing for quizzes and tests throughout the week.

We want students to spend time in the evening reviewing what we did in class, working on their projects or presentations assigned throughout the grading period. For students to be successful in this class, they need to spend 10-15 minutes a night reviewing the days work.

Virtual Learning

Expectations for academic progress in virtual classrooms will be the same high rigor found in our face to face classes. It is our goal that the material and assignments presented in virtual learning mirror the assignments students experience in the classroom. Students will use the same instructional technology in virtual learning as in the classroom.
