History Competition

2022 History Day Competition

Robbinsville High School students recently competed in the regional National History Day Competition, which was held virtually this year through the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Students winning regionals have been invited to compete in the state completion in May.

· Mosco Rogers placed 1st in the individual website category for his research entitled: “Should YOU, trust the government?” He researched several controversial topics such as Area 51, 9/11 and the CIA.

· Delaney Hooper and Kelle Williams placed 1st in the Group Exhibit category for their research entitled: “Holocaust.” They researched what the Holocaust entailed.

· Andrew Harris placed 2nd in the paper category for his research entitled: “The Pig War.”

· Kinsley Odom and Lorin Hogsed placed 2nd in the Group Exhibit category for their research entitled: “Planned Parenthood: More Than Just Abortion.” They researched all the services offered by Planned Parenthood other than abortions.

· Brooklyn Rogers placed 2nd in the Individual Exhibit category for her research entitled: “The Dark History of Mental Illness.” She researched various treatments for mental illness in the early 1900’s.

· Giorgia Magnani placed 2nd in the paper category for her research entitled: “The Blues Music.” She researched the influences that blues music has on current genres of music.

· Abby Lancaster placed 3rd in the Individual Exhibit category for her research entitled: “Are Rodeos Animal Abuse.” She researched the controversy surrounding the treatment of horses during rodeos.

Each student researched a topic of their choice, and choose a category to present their research. They each completed a process paper to introduce themselves and their topics to the judges. After finishing their project they completed an annotated Bibliography giving credit for all the sources they utilized during their research.



2021 Competition

Robbinsville High School students recently competed in the virtual National History Day Competition. Both students placed in the exhibit category. Both students were invited to participate in the virtual state competition.

Klancy Stevens and Cheyenne Rowland won 1st in the individual exhibit category for their research entitled: “Journalists Powerful Enough to shape Wars.”

2020 Competition


Robbinsville High School students recently competed in the National History Day Competition held at Western Carolina University. Sixteen students placed in various contests. All 16 students qualified for the state competition to be held at the NC Museum of History in April.

Justin Stewart placed 1st in the individual exhibit category for his research entitled: “The Day Chivalry Died: Medieval Warfare from Crecy to Orleans 1346 - 1429.”

Hazel Whittle placed 1st in the Website Design category for her research entitled: “Believe to Break Barriers.

The team of Anna Riddle, Maggie Knight, Sydney Farley & Tayla Millsaps placed 1st in the performance category for their research entitled: “Fashionably Fearless: We Change to Change the World.

Zeke Odom placed 2nd in the individual exhibit category for his research entitled: “ANZACS, Sikhs & Highlanders: The Men Who Saved Great Britain.

The team of Adrienne Silvers & Belle Hyde placed 2nd in the Group Exhibit category for their research entitled: “The War on Women.”

The team of Dylan Shortt, Russell Hooper, Troy Jones & Wilhem Crisp placed 3rd in the Group Documentary category for their research entitled: “How the FBI Had Eyes On The Mob.”


The team of Sabrina Orr, Diane Keber & Kambree Sellers placed 3rd in the Group Exhibit category for their research entitled: “The First 12 Ladies to Break Barriers.”



2019 Competition

Robbinsville High School students recently competed in the National History Day Competition held at Western Carolina University. Seventeen RHS students competed, and seventeen students placed in various contests. All 17 students were invited to the state competition.

Zeke Odom was the big winner of the day, placing 1st in the individual exhibit category for his research entitled: “The Last Stuart Prince: The Jacobite Rising of 1745.”

The team of Katie Denton, Grace Denton, Emily Free, and Sonya Brooks tied for 2nd place in the group exhibit category for their research entitled: “Night In Camp: Elie Wiesel Survives Auschwitz.”

The team of Hannah Moose, Destinee Cable, Angeliena Hinton, Kristina Barckert and Ashley Briggs tied for 2nd place in the group exhibit category for their research entitled: “The Devil’s Magic: Horrors of the Salem Witch Trials.”

Maximilian Norris placed 2nd in the individual performance category with a presentation entitled: “Freddy Mercury: Bohemian Saxody.”

Lanie Stewart placed 2nd in the individual exhibit category for her local history research entitled: “The Dragon Wins: The Tale of the Dragon.”

The team of Hana Rogers, Liz Ayers, Cambrie Lovin, Locklie Postell and Macy Rogers placed 3rd for their research entitled: “We Can Do It” – Rosie the Riveter & WWII Women.”

Each student researched a topic of their choice, and then created a presentation (exhibit or performance) for the competition. On the day of the competition, they were interviewed by 2 – 3 professors fluent in that area of study.
