18th September 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we settle into the new school year, I would like to focus on something that has a significant impact on children's wellbeing, happiness and readiness to learn: healthy eating.
The Government has recently published updated guidance on school food, with an increased emphasis on fresh fruit and vegetables, fibre-rich foods and balanced, nutritious meals, alongside reducing foods that are high in sugar, salt and fat. The new standards are planned to come into effect from September 2027, subject to Parliamentary approval.
At Grafton, we already want to encourage these healthy habits. If your child brings a packed lunch, please support our Healthy Packed Lunch Policy by including a balanced range of foods such as fruit and vegetables, a healthy source of protein and an appropriate carbohydrate, while limiting sweets, chocolate, sugary drinks and highly processed snacks. Healthy food helps children maintain their energy and concentration throughout a busy school day.
Thank you for supporting us.
Have a lovely weekend!
A quick reminder to help everyone start the school day smoothly!
Please check your child has everything they need the night before, including:
👔 Full school uniform
🏃 PE kit
🏊 Swimming kit
🎵 Musical instruments
📚 Any other equipment needed for the following day
Please check the school calendar, timetable and school communications regularly so you know what is required.
As our office team is busy supporting the smooth running of the school, we are unable to make individual reminder calls when items are forgotten.
A quick check the night before can make busy mornings easier and helps children arrive prepared, confident and ready to learn. It is also a great way for children to build independence and take responsibility for getting ready for school.
Thank you for your continued support!
