Living as We
Cohousing's Catalyst for Collective Well-being & Connectivity
The social dynamics and community development in an urban setting
The shift is visible in the development trajectory, from the humble Lumba Kuda flats of the past to the modern Rapid Transit System (RTS) initiatives that represent Johor Bahru's aspirations for urban progress. Throughout these transitions, the city has had to deal with the unavoidable consequences of urban development. The demolition of public housing, which was once an important part of community life, has become an important part of city infrastructure development initiatives. However, these demolitions foreshadow transformative goals, ushering in the era of urban redevelopment goals in Johor Bahru to become Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).
The paradigm shift brings to the more extensive background of gentrification and displacement. In which it has challenged conventional notions of urban living and redefined the city's socio-cultural landscape. The thesis aims to capture the intricate layers of Johor Bahru's social dynamics, as well as to propose Co-Housing that weaves into the evolving variety of community life.
