The Urban Studio project explores the integration of biophilic design principles into a wellness center in Jalan Raja Chulan, aiming to enhance the physical, social, and environmental well-being of the urban community. Through the study, it highlights how biophilic architecture can bridge nature and the built environment, addressing urban stress, limited public spaces, and climate challenges through sustainable design strategies.
The project emphasizes pedestrian connectivity, linking Changkat Bukit Bintang and the adjacent church, while strategically positioning public and private zones to ensure efficient use. The inclusion of open plazas, shaded terraces, and garden spaces fosters community engagement, promotes active lifestyles, and enhances urban livability. The building orientation takes advantage of views towards Bukit Nanas Eco Forest, incorporating natural ventilation and passive cooling to minimize thermal heat gain.
Through comprehensive site analysis and precedent studies, the project identifies 3 key wellness elements—physical activity, social interaction, and environmental quality—as fundamental to urban health. The architectural response integrates multi-functional spaces, such as sports facilities, communal areas, and wellness-focused accommodations, catering to both the local community and urban visitors.
Ultimately, this project aims to establish a model for wellness-centered urban design, demonstrating how biophilic principles can transform city spaces into healthier, more connected environments. The project serves as a prototype for future sustainable developments, advocating for nature-inclusive urban planning that prioritizes human well-being and environmental resilience.
