Playscape 

Developed under the Urban Tourism theme for this semester’s urban study, PlayScape is designed as an inclusive urban entertainment hub that integrates play-focused activities as its core element, supported by vertical gardens and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). The project aims to create a vibrant space for recreation, social interaction, and urban tourism, redefining entertainment in Kuala Lumpur’s dense cityscape.

Current urban development's prioritize commercial and transit functions, neglecting opportunities for multi-generational, activity-based spaces that foster creativity, social interaction, and well-being. The underutilized parking lot near Monorel Jalan Raja Chulan represents a missed opportunity to create a recreational hub, enhancing urban livability and attracting both locals and tourists.

A key feature of PlayScape is the Vertical Playground, reimagining traditional ground-level play spaces into a multi-tiered interactive zone. This design maximizes limited urban space, offering immersive play experiences across different levels. Enhancing this experience is a giant slide integrated into the building’s façade, providing a unique, fun, and functional way for users to navigate the structure while reinforcing PlayScape’s identity as an urban landmark.

To reduce urban density, PlayScape integrates vertical gardens throughout the building, contributing to urban cooling, better air quality, and a refreshing green environment. These green elements extend beyond the site, allowing nearby buildings to visually and physically connect with nature, improving the overall city experience.

Designed with TOD principles, PlayScape ensures seamless connectivity with public transport, encouraging accessibility and movement. Its multi-functional spaces include interactive entertainment zones, cultural and artistic venues, and a letable garden plot to foster community engagement.

Through innovative vertical integration, PlayScape optimizes land use, mitigates high urban density, and transforms Raja Chulan into a dynamic entertainment hub that enhances urban life and tourism.
