Cultural Apprenticeship Hub
Preserving Tradition, Innovating the Future
Redefining Oyster Harvesting through Cultural Heritage and Modern Innovation
The traditional practice of oyster diving in Muar, one of the unique crafts that has shaped the town's cultural and historical identity, is currently facing multiple challenges, including environmental degradation, economic instability, and a decline in cultural transmission to younger generations. These issues threaten not only the livelihood of local river divers but also the continuity of Muar’s cultural heritage. The proposed Cultural Apprenticeship Center and Trading Hub aims to address these challenges by preserving and revitalizing the traditional skills of oyster diving. Through a blend of cultural preservation and contemporary development, the center will provide a platform for cultural education, sustainable practices, and economic empowerment. This initiative seeks to breathe new life into the craft, ensuring that it remains a vital and evolving part of Muar’s future while promoting a sustainable and resilient community.
