As located in Johor Bahru City Center - a rapidly growing city with scenarios of the transient city that centered on the ideology of urban life in Malaysia, this prototype will be able to celebrate the fast-changing rate of displacement of people in a dynamic aspect. Shift Living is much driven by the ideas of minimalist and simple lifestyles and further injected by phenomena of young professionals and their way of living in Johor Bahru as directions to study the characteristics of dynamism and growth rate which these later be conceived in design. The harmonious integration of building and background studies has created the possibility of creating a vibrant and impactful living quarter for local folks in a short period.

Maximizing the Minimalism:
Micro Homes as the Evolution of Urban Living in Johor Bahru.
The inspiration begins with expressing the ideas of temporality and dynamism in architecture, the design has amplified the building programs that are set in this new prototype of micro-living in Johor Bahru city center. This development is to address the transitioning nature of living in temporal staying for millennials and Gen-Z in the city center by bridging the development to context and serving as a transition hub for young generations to set in before settling down in their property. Thus, this development has also been stacked up with other functions that are community-driven and not only focusing on individual growth alone but community growth as well. The site expands in a way it has connectivity with surrounding context and has a more welcoming and open environment for the public to access with two entries, from Tebrau Highways and Jalan Wadi Hana.
In this context, Micro-housing, or designing living spaces in small sites, emerged as the ideal design solution. The vast majority of the world's population exists as individuals who live in foreign cities for work. They do not require large living quarters because they spend little time indoors. As a result, micro-housing is beneficial in accommodating young people in society. Considering the current pandemic, micro-housing has similar design ideas to socially distant spaces. If the pandemic's aftereffects continue in the coming years, micro-housing may become the most popular architectural trend. Thus, this take is aimed to accommodate layers of local communities with consideration of social and economic sustainability aspects and provide flexibility given the possibility of future pandemics and other global disruptions from an architecture approach.
UNIT CUSTOMIZATION
Manipulative units with fixed structures
Units are built flexibly into units with extended configurations. Void for shifting units to increase the potential of other units and to reattribute the potential of existing units.
UNIT INSTALLATION
Units (Infill & Fixed Elements)
this prototype is based on the design and use of systems composed of separate repetitive elements (standard units), which are similar in size, shape, and functional nature. These can be linked up to each other, replaced, or added.
