MICRO LIVING AS URBAN CATALYST: COMPOSITE CITY-IN-A-BUILDING FOR SEREMBAN NEIGHBOURHOOD
SBEA 3169 | < YEAR 3 DESIGN 6 >
The proposed development is a mixed-use micro-housing apartment located within the historic core of Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. The project responds to the increasing challenges of housing affordability, urban fragmentation, and the underutilisation of upper-floor spaces in the city centre by introducing a compact, high-density residential development integrated with commercial, communal, and recreational functions.
The architectural proposal adopts the idea of a City-in-a-Building, where two residential towers are positioned above a shared podium to create a vertically connected urban environment. Rather than functioning solely as an apartment building, the development operates as a three-dimensional extension of the city by integrating housing, retail, public amenities, and social spaces within a single architectural system. Through the incorporation of vertical commons, elevated public spaces, sky gardens, communal terraces, and interconnected circulation networks, the project extends urban life beyond the ground plane while encouraging social interaction and community engagement.
