Johor Baharu Food Legacy
Preserving Johor's Food Legacy: Centre for Culture and Culinary Heritage
Johor Bahru’s food heritage is an essential part of its cultural identity, shaped by generations of tradition and diverse culinary influences. However, rapid urbanization and modernization have led to the diminishing presence of traditional food practices and community dining experiences. This project aims to preserve and promote Johor’s food legacy through a multifunctional centre that integrates cultural education, social interaction, and architectural heritage.
The design reflects Johor Bahru’s unique identity while providing spaces that celebrate food traditions. The ground floor preserves the ambiance of traditional shop houses, while upper levels house a gallery, library, cooking workshops, and studio kitchens to support cultural education and entrepreneurship.
This center serves as a cultural hub, fostering social integration and ensuring that future generations continue to appreciate and engage with Johor’s rich culinary traditions. Through immersive experiences and interactive spaces, the project strengthens the connection between people, food, and heritage, safeguarding Johor Bahru’s culinary identity for the future.
