Why Focus on Malay Arts Textile?
Needless to say that, Johor boasts a plethora of significant heritage, spanning both tangible and intangible realms. From the aromatic herbs that have long been coveted for their medicinal properties to the rich tapestry of flavors that define its culinary landscape, Johor's heritage is as diverse as it is vibrant. The graceful movements of the zapin dance, accompanied by the soul- stirring melodies of traditional music, speak volumes about the region's cultural depth. Why?Malay Arts Textile? the answer lies in the pervasive lack of awareness among the people, particularly the youth community. By focusing on Malay arts textiles, we aim to bridge this gap in awareness and appreciation. These textiles are not merely pieces of fabric, they are living embodiments of Malay's history, identity, and creativity. As we know about motif and patterns on batik, songket and busana, these are dominant things that we need to understand and appreciate, the characteristic of it, the elements, the making of it. In essence, the focus on Malay arts textiles is not just about preserving a craft; it's about preserving a piece of our collective identity.
