Technical Validation and Secure Browser Installation Instructions
Welcome to Graded's NWEA MAP Guide. Here you will find useful information on how to validate your computer readiness to run the NWEA MAP Assessment and Install the NWEA Secure Browser, that will be used during the testing days.
IMPORTANT: Please follow all steps as described below.
STEP 1 - Validate that your computer has the minimum requirements
Go to https://check.nwea.org/
The Check will run automatically, validating that your computer has the minimum requirements to run the test.
As soon as the Check ends, if your computer was approved, you should see the following banner on the top of the page:
IMPORTANT: In the event your computer does not pass the Check, please follow the steps below:
If you are using a Windows Computer, follow the instructions listed HERE in order to update your computer.
If you are using a Mac Computer, follow the instructions listed HERE to update your computer.
As soon as you`re done updating your computer, please run Step 1 again.
If the Check still FAILS, please send the student with the computer to the ICT Office at Graded for advanced support.
STEP 2 - Download the Secure Browser
Once your computer has passed the check, it is time for us to install the secure Browser from NWEA to take the test.
Download the proper version as shown below:
For WINDOWS computers:
As soon as you pass the check (STEP 1), download the updated version of the Secure Browser at this LINK
Follow the on-screen steps, and your Secure browser will be updated.
For MacOS computers:
As soon as you pass the check (STEP 1), download the updated version of the Secure Browser at this LINK
You can also download from the App Store, just search for NWEA, and you will get the Secure Browser. If this is the chosen method, the browser will auto update (Skip Step 3).
STEP 3 - Install the Secure Browser
Now that we`ve downloaded the Installation files, proceed as follows:
To install on a Windows Computer
Open the installer application. On Windows, this will be Setup Lockdown Browser.exe, it will be located at the folder you chose to save to, or by default on the Windows Download folder.
Double-click the file to install and follow the onscreen instructions until the end of the installation.
To install on a Mac Computer
Open the installer application. On MacOS, this will be Lockdown Browser.dmg, it will be located at the folder you chose to save to, or by default on the MacOS Download folder.
Double click the file to install, as soon as the installation screen appears, drag the NWEA Secure Testing Browser icon to the Applications folder icon to complete the installation.
To verify that your browser was https://cdn.nwea.org/docs/NWEA-Secure-Testing-Browser-Mac.dmginstalled correctly, please execute it by clicking on the NWEA Icon as shown below:
STEP 4 - Open the Secure Browser
Now that we`ve installed the Secure Browser, verify that it is working by following the steps below:
Find and double-click on the Secure Browser icon (usually it will be located at the Desktop)

As soon as the application starts, it will open a new window, that will display the Login Page for the test, as shown below:
You're all set! To close the Application, just click on the X on the top right Corner.
WARNING: Once the secure Browser is open, it won`t allow you change to other applications unless it is closed.
In the event you need further support, please send the Student in possession of their computer to the ICT Office.
