We hope you will assist your child in contacting friends and family about supporting Walk with Grace through monetary pledges. Our goal as a school is to raise $30,000! Each family is encouraged to set their own goal, but we hope for 100% schoolwide participation.
There are three different ways in which your child can collect pledges:
Sign up through PledgeStar, a user-friendly web-based system, which allows you to collect pledges from family and friends through email and the web (link below) OR
Send a personalized pledge request letter to your friends and family (link below) OR
Fill out the Pledge Form as you request and collect pledges directly from friends and family (link below)
As our students walk throughout River Forest, they collect bags of food that will be delivered to the BEYOND HUNGER later that day. Students will learn more about BEYOND HUNGER in the coming weeks. We are very excited to give our students this opportunity, as we believe it is important for them to learn about the needs within their community and beyond and how they can serve.
Leading up to the walk, students will also have the opportunity to participate in a school wide food drive to kick off Walk-a-Thon week. Students can bring in non-perishable food items to place in bins outside their classrooms. The class that gathers the most food will win a prize for the class.
To learn more about Beyond Hunger:
Students will walk varying distances based on their grade level. These distances will range from one mile for preschoolers to six miles for junior high students. At the end of the walk, students will then get to participate in fun games and activities as a school.
Every student will have fun class games and activities after the walk, but some lucky students will get to compete with a teacher/staff member in the special teacher games. For every $100 that a family raises, one ticket will be earned. Students can place their ticket in the jar of a participating teacher during Walk-a-Thon week. The morning of the walk-a-thon, teachers will take turns drawing a name from their jar to see who they will get to compete with. Students can earn their first ticket just by creating a Pledgestar account and sending it out to five people. It is a great way to end an incredible day!
