Reading Olympics

Reading Olympics is open to all 5th graders. There are two rounds of competition, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Participation in the Fall in mandatory, participation in the Spring is optional.

Teams are made of three students. You do not need to have the same team for the Fall and Spring competitions.

Students read the books on a list and compete with each other answering questions about the books. The students answer with the name of the book and the name of its author.

There are nine books on the list. Students do not need to read every book on the list. It's up to the teams to assign their members books to read. Team members may read all the books on the list, but it is not required. Just make sure all the books have been read by at least one team member!

The school competition is held in the end of November (exact date TBD). The winner will go on to compete in the regional competition in December (exact date TBD) against the public schools in Oak Park and River Forest, as well as some other area private schools.

The team with the best score at the regional competition has the name of the school and their names engraved on a plaque that can be found at both public libraries.
