What do ELCA Lutherans believe?
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is grounded in the belief in the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ELCA Lutherans proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and trust the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe. Their teachings are based on the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds, and the Lutheran confessional writings in the Book of Concord.
The ELCA emphasizes God's rich mercy in Jesus Christ and encourages members to be witnesses in both speech and action. They embrace a living, daring confidence in God's grace, welcoming all people with their questions and complexities. The church is committed to doing God's work in Christ's name for the life of the world.
