The section below outlines the competencies students are expected to achieve at the end of each course in order to be prepared for the next clinical experience. Please take these into consideration as you provide supervision each week and complete evaluations; we value your perspective on the student's readiness to move forward to the next clinical course.

Outcome-based Competencies by Course
(Pre-Practicum)
Able to use basic counseling skills (link) with peer 'clients'; identifies client goals, and facilitates using a process-oriented, client-centered focus to reach goals.
Foundational knowledge of diagnoses/diagnostic skills and counseling theories.
Practicum
Proficient in appropriate use of foundational skills with clients in the field.
Completes intake and risk assessments leading to an appropriate diagnosis.
Develops basic treatment plans with measurable outcomes.
Maintains appropriate record keeping.
Research and identify interventions appropriate to the client diagnosis.
Facilitate a treatment plan while maintaining a client-centered focus.
Internship
Mastery use of foundational skills with clients in the field,
