All About Mrs. Honeyman

Hi, I'm Mrs. Honeyman. This is my 16th year teaching in Gretna. I received my undergraduate degree from UNO in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Early Childhood. In 2011, I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Doane College. I recently graduated in July with my second MA in Educational Leadership through Midland University. In addition to teaching at GPS, I am an instructor for Midland University's TCL program. Mentoring and leading tomorrow's teachers is a love of mine! Gretna Schools are the BEST....I began my career with Gretna Public Schools teaching Kindergarten. Teaching Kinder was AMAZING, I have watched so many students grow up. I gained so much knowledge as a Kindergarten teacher which has helped make me the teacher I am today. It is still near and dear to my heart. After 12 years, I decided to make a switch and began teaching 2nd grade. Oh my...my new LOVE! Teaching 2nd grade is WONDERFUL! I just love all of the concepts we learn, and the creativity and transformation that takes place is amazing to witness. I'm so excited to begin making memories with your children- 2nd grade truly is the best!
I have three wonderful children. Ava is 9th Grade at Gretna High School. She is active in Competitive dance through Fusion in Omaha and is a Varsity Cheerleader at the high school. This keeps us pretty active. Gavin is in 6th grade at Gretna Middle School. He loves all sports! His current loves are Baseball and Football. We are pretty busy in the summer especially- but I wouldn't have it any other way! Watching my kids activities is my very favorite thing! Finally, our little peanut Taya is 6 and is a 1st Grader here at ACE. She is our little spit-fire/princess! We just never know what she will say or do! I'm sure you will hear some stories about my crazy Taya- she truly brings JOY to our lives! Our youngest baby, is black and white and full of adorable wrinkles! Dexter joined our family in April. He loves laying in the sun and taking car rides. He also loves visiting school too! I can't wait for you to meet him.
I am originally from a VERY small town in Iowa and graduated with a tiny little class of only 26. Naturally, you will find me cheering on those HAWKS over football season. I love making friendly bets with my students each year. We've known to learn fight songs, fly flags, and all wear Iowa gear. We'll see how the Husker game goes this year...so far those HAWKS are holding strong!
When I'm not at my kids activities or cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, you can find me reading- I LOVE books! I also enjoy crafting and creating things from wood, banners, cups to t-shirts! My family and I enjoy traveling, camping, riding four-wheelers, fishing, and riding bikes! We also enjoy weekly family movie nights snuggled up at home as well. Of course, my ultimate love is also TEACHING! I love having a small part in your child's memories as well!
