Homework Policy
Students are responsible for completing and turning in their homework on time. Most students will not have homework throughout the year, as long as they use their in class time wisely to complete their work. I ensure students have class time to work on and ask questions over their homework, however if time is not being spent wisely in the classroom the natural consequence is homework will be sent home. If homework does go home, it must be completed and turned in by the start of the next school day. The consequences for not completing homework are listed below.
If any additional work is sent home, it will be for test reviews or additional practice in skills needing to be mastered. Students will be given two days to complete any additional work sent home. My expectation is students are reading 20 minutes a night, as well as, working on our spelling words for the week. I also expect students are using their evenings exploring new hobbies or being active in other ways, whether that is a sport, playing outside, making a craft, or exploring music.
Grading
1 = 90%-100%
2 = 80%-89%
3 = 70%-79%
4 = 60%-69%
Redo = 60% and below
Redo Assignments
When a student receives less than a 60%, he or she must redo the assignment. A redo assignment will be given after reteaching of the content has been given. The most a student can earn on the assignment is a 60%. A note will go home with the student attached to the assignment when a redo needs to be done. I use a redo policy in my classroom as the ensure students are learning to master the content.
Late/Missing Assignment Consequences
1st time: A note will be sent home to bring back the assignment completed the next day.
2nd time: The student will be required to finish their assignment during recess and a note will go home.
3rd time: Student calls home and completes homework during recess.
10th time: Meeting with student, parent, teacher, and principal will be scheduled.
