About Ms. Z

Rebecca Zimmerman (Civics teacher) has moved from Greenfield Middle School to the 8th Grade Academy. She has been teaching ELA and Social Studies to 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in Connecticut and Massachusetts since 1991. Ms. Zimmerman began her career as an historical interpreter at Old Sturbridge Village - reenacting life in the early 1800s. She earned her undergraduate degree in American Studies and English at Heidelberg University and a Masters in Education at University of Connecticut. Previous to working in Greenfield, she served as an ELA academic coach for the Gill-Montague school district, and took 4 years off from teaching to work for a Teaching About American History grant based in Salem, MA.

When not at school, she enjoys reading, knitting, camping, playing with her cat and traveling. Ms. Zimmerman loves working with students as they move into the realm of high school. You can contact her directly at rebzim1@gpsk12.org

You will find that students will be involved in lots of group work and assignments that require them to think critically about the world. She encourages students to use their minds well and ask lots of questions. To succeed in her classes you need to follow 2 simple rules...

  • Do your best, and...

  • Respect yourself, property and the people around you.

She is looking forward to a super year!

Extra note... When school is in session at GHS, Ms. Z stays after on Thursdays for extra help or so you can complete make up work.
