My name is Kyle Anderson. Before becoming the IMAGE teacher and program coordinator in 2017, I taught 5th grade Math, Language Arts, and our three-member team’s Social Studies switch classes for three years at Grandville Cummings Elementary.
Prior to that, I began my time teaching in Grandville with eight years in 3rd grade at East Elementary.
My earlier work before GPS included four years as the coordinator for tobacco prevention education through Spectrum Health Healthier Communities’ HeartReach program, and two years as a 5th grade teacher in rural Dansville Schools.
My degrees are in Elementary Education, Science, and Social Sciences from Western Michigan University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University. I am an enthusiastic learner as well as a dedicated teacher, and am continually looking for new ways to view and understand our beautiful and diverse world and to help others do the same. My current professional focus areas include gold-standard Project Based Learning and A.I. in education.
I was born and raised in Escanaba in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula before moving downstate for my college years. It was there at WMU that I met my wife, Melanie, who is a native of West Michigan. We now make our home in Jenison and have two children, 18-year-old Hope who is attending Bay Community College in my hometown of Escanaba, and 14-year-old Noah who is a Freshman at Jenison High School.
My interests and hobbies include spending time and exploring out-of-doors, travel, hiking and biking, reading for leisure and learning, volunteering with Crash's Landing cat rescue and sanctuary, playing games of all kinds, regularly organizing game days for friends and family, as well as supervising Board Game Club. From 2024 to 2026, I also served as the co-lead for the House of Amistad at Oakestown Intermediate.
