About The Class

The Musical Theater Class is a year-long course in which students learn the fundamentals of vocal and theater performance with a musical production at the conclusion of the year. In years past, GMS has put on shows like Into the Woods JR, Sister Act JR, Mary Poppins JR, and for the 2023-24 school year performed Mean Girls JR. The course is designed to encourage your student to perform as a team while giving them confidence on the stage.

Enrollment in the course is very limited and competitive. To be considered for the class, students must meet two requirements: the student must audition for one of the available spots, and the student must be co-enrolled in a GMS performance ensemble (band, choir, orchestra). The latter requirement is to ensure that students who participate in the course have a general understanding of music reading, theory, and performance necessary to produce a musical production.

Auditions take place in the spring for acceptance into the following school year. i.e. Auditions in April 2024 for enrollment in the 2024-2025 school year.
