Grant Junior High is embarking on our 2nd year of the STAR Academy program. We are thrilled to inform you that your student has the opportunity to apply to be a part of this great program. The STAR Program will allow students to complete coursework for 7th or 8th grade. Students will be strategically selected based on school records as well as the specifications listed below.
Who is it for?
Current 7th and 8th graders. An ideal STAR Academy student should be a student that would benefit from non-traditional hands-on learning and who can work well independently and with peers. Students should be able to commit to attending the program for the entire school year.
What is it?
STAR Academy is an all encompassing, all-inclusive program that engages students through hands-on, project based learning. Students complete coursework in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Career and Technical education aligned to state standards. Students complete their 7th or 8th grade coursework and continue to participate in Louisiana State testing.
When is it?
The 2025-2026 school year. The program will follow the Grant Parish Schools' calendar.

Attendance Expectations:
students should meet attendance requirements per GPSB policy. Chronic absenteeism may result in failure to meet STAR Program requirements. Failure to meet the requirements may lead to removal from STAR Academy.
Coursework is student driven in addition to partner work. It is IMPERATIVE that students are present to complete assignments and stay on track to complete all coursework.
Students have 3 days to make up missed assignments after an excused absence.
Behavior Expectations:
STAR Academy Students are expected to work both independently and with groups or partners regularly.
Students should not be a disruption to the learning of others.
Studets will be held accountable for their behaviors per the GPSB disciplinary policy.
Extreme negative behavior may result in removal from the STAR Program for the year.
Students will follow GPSB technology policy and take care of all equipment and materials provided to them through the STAR Program.

All applicants will be fairly evaluated for the program, but unfortunately not all applicants will be able to participate in the program. Parents and Students will be notified of acceptance before the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
