Your parents surprised you and your brother with a Spring Break trip to Italy. While in Italy, they take you to a very small town, just outside of Rome, called Viterbo. Within this village , there is a charming Medieval Center, a restored castle and a large archaeological site, called Ostia Antica. Your parents have given you and your brother some time to explore Ostia Antica on your own.
While in the castle, you are approached by an older gentleman, dressed like a janitor. He tells you about a treasure that has been stashed in a vault in the dungeon of the castle. The janitor believes the treasure is still there because no one has been able to figure out the codes needed to open the vault. He tells you that there are clues hidden all around the castle. These clues will give you the 4 codes needed to open the vault. He finishes by saying, "Corone romane possono mostrare il percorso, si dovrà fare la matematica!"
When you look up the translation of the janitor's words from Italian to English, you realize he said, “Roman Crowns can show the path, you will have to do the math!”
Once the janitor leaves, you and your brother decide to try and open this vault by finding the 4 necessary codes. One problem: you only have 90 minutes until you will have to leave Ostia Antica with your parents. Both of you decide to get started immediately.
There may be hints on the puzzles. PLEASE try to solve each puzzle without using the hints. If you get stuck on a puzzle, then the hints are there to assist you.
