Introduction
Imagine how incomplete hotdogs, burgers, fries, or other foods that are served with ketchup would be like without ketchup. Ketchup is very important to the food industry so without ketchup, the food that is regularly served with ketchup would be insufficient. Henry J. Heinz Henry J. Heinz impacted the world by inventing his famous ketchup, his ways of advertising, and his way of keeping his products fresh, he was also determined to make his company a success.
Henry J. Heinz was very successful in his early life. He was a productive and hardworking man Henry John Heinz was born on the 11th of October in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His father and mother, John Henry Heinz, and Anna Margaretha Schmidt were born in Birmingham, Pennsylvania. He was 8 when he started to sell extra crops from his family garden to neighbors. When he was 12, he used 3 and a half acres to grow horseradish and he would sell homemade horseradish to the residents of Sharpsburg. After college, Heinz started working in his father’s company, which was a brick-producing company. At 21, Henry bought a partial interest in his father's business. Three years later he partnered with L. C. Noble to make and sell bricks. The following year after that, they decided to abandon making bricks and return to food processing. They created a company named "Anchor Pickle & Vinegar Works". “They produced celery sauce, pickled cucumbers, and vinegar’. When Henry was six years old, he started working in the house and the garden, and when he was 9 he memorized his mother’s recipe for pickles and homemade grated horseradish. In the article, Henry J. Heinz Biography: A Success Story of Heinz Ketchup Empire, in one of the newspapers it wrote, " In so-called horseradish, we can find more turnips and water-soaked wood sticks than the horseradish itself". To show the quality of his products, he began to put products in glass jars, which made a good impression on his customers. That increased the popularity of his grated horseradish among his customers. When Henry was 17 he started earning 2,400 dollars a day. his garden had grown over this to the extent that he had to hire workers. So far, his business has become a success.
Beginning of Henry J. Heinz’s Career
The main event that caused Heinz to create the Heinz company was the scarcity of cucumbers. The scarcity of cucumbers caused Heinz to sell his properties. Heinz suffered from depression and was bedridden for several months. "Christmas of 1875 was the worst one in his life, as he even could not afford to buy gifts for his children". (Henry J. Heinz Biography: Success Story of Heinz Ketchup Empire) Heinz's supportive mother gave all of her savings to him so he could give his business a second try. Heinz used the money to create another company called the Heinz Food Company. Heinz wisely registered his mother, cousin, and brother in the company. He continued to sell sauces and pickles. His mother owned most of the company, so the Heinz Food Company became a family business. His newest invention to sell for the company was tomato ketchup. Some other items he sold when his company was new were apple butter, pepper sauce, and some minced meat recipes. His company was at the point where it was so popular that he changed the company's name to the H.J. Heinz company. He gave the idea of 57 varieties to Heinz. He was in an elevator and he saw an advertisement that said 21 styles. He was inspired so he used the 57 varieties to advertise his company.
Throughout his time selling many different food items, Henry J. Heinz encountered many different problems and events, which led to his success. Just after recovering from depression, Heinz invents tomato ketchup. something other than being famous for his tomato ketchup, he was also famous for his pickle charms which were given out during the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. They were given out because it would attract more people by giving out a paper to go to the Heinz company exhibit to collect their pickle charms; over 1 million charms were given out that day. “SSHKE”. Heinz's products were probably the freshest of them all because he made sure that every single vegetable was at its peak freshness. "Protecting the consumer by owning the product all the way from the soil to the table", was a quote from Heinz himself. Heinz also never used chemical preservatives in his products, because he wanted to stay completely organic, just like when he started selling horseradish in his early life. Heinz believed that other food companies would have to keep their products fresh to keep the trust of customers, the customers do not want a product that has chemicals in it. Heinz was smart about advertising his products. He also wanted his products to look appetizing and fresh because that was very important to him. to keep the trust of his customers and keep his products look fresh, for example when his customers were suspicious because they couldn't see what was in the bottle, so to fix that he sold his product in glass bottles. There were some problems with this though, Heinz would soon find out that the products would darken over time, to fix this, he placed stickers over the bottle to cover some space on the bottle, to distract the customer from the darkening product inside. “SSHKE”.
Henry J. Heinz has greatly impacted the world with his Heinz Company. Now, the company's revenue is about 11.64 billion dollars, is known worldwide for its infamous Tomato Ketchup, and its name has changed to the “Kraft Heinz” company. Heinz’s Ketchup now sells over 50 percent of the tomato ketchup in the world, which makes it obvious that the ketchup is the most popular product that the Heinz company sells and means that most people buy Heinz ketchup more than other company’s ketchup. The world would have been different if Heinz’s tomato ketchup wouldn’t exist. Because of Heinz’s hard work and effort to keep his company up and running, by the time of his death, he already had about 6,500 workers working for his company, and about 25 factories around the world, of course now, those numbers have expanded by a lot. Heinz also impacted the world by having good quality products that are fresh and safe, which inspired other companies to do the same, which means that he created a chain of other companies selling fresh products because of him. Heinz is known for many more great things he has done for the food industry.
Throughout his life, Henry J. Heinz has learned and improved his ways of running his company. Heinz was smart, confident, and always compassionate about his company, which is one of the main reasons his company was a huge success. he was also determined to make his products the freshest out of all of the others. Heinz always had a way to do everything in the most efficient way possible, even if it was starting a brand new company in the middle of a depression, or finding a genius way to advertise his products successfully. Heinz always had a great attitude, and he started his company at a young age, at that point, there was no stopping him, he was a brilliant businessman. Henry J. Heinz was a great man, he started a lot of great things, he cared about most things other company owners didn’t care about, and he never gave up.
