Academics
Grades will be checked following the UIL schedule that athletics follows
Any grade less than a 70 and below:
The student has 2 weeks to raise the grade
The student MUST attend tutorials for that subject until the grade has been raised
District policy for membership eligibility applies (section VI, B, #2 & #3 of Middle School Cheerleading Handbook)
Attendance
Shows up on time for all games/practices/events
Cheerleaders need to inform the coach of any times they need to leave early or arrive late PRIOR to the game/practice beginning
Attends all games/practices/events
Cheerleaders need to inform the coach of any missed games/practices PRIOR to the game/practice beginning
All Cheerleaders are responsible for their own transportation (both to and from) all games/practices/events and MUST be picked up at the designated end time
Please be respectful of my time and pick up your cheerleader on time - I live 40 minutes away from the school. Please inform me ASAP if there is going to be a delay so I can plan accordingly.
Behavior
(in and out of uniform)
As a member of the WAMS cheerleading/dance teams, it is your duty to exhibit excellent behavior as you are a representative of the team, coach and school. Misbehavior or misconduct of any kind (both in and out of the classroom, on and off campus) will result in immediate consequences.
Actively participates to the best of their ability in all school/community activities including (but not limited to) practice, games, fundraisers, pep rallies, academic or athletic events on and off campus
Respectful to coach(es) and teammates and always cooperates
Be an active listener and accept constructive criticism
Whining, complaining, drama and attitudes will not be tolerated
Adheres to all policies outlined in the GPISD student handbook
Fighting will not be tolerated and will result in immediate removal from the team
Failure to comply with the behavior expectations could result in suspension from games or removal from team
Apparel, Equipment & Uniform
Any items paid for by the coach/school must be returned at the end of the season in the same condition they were given to the cheerleader.
Each cheerleader is responsible for bringing the necessary & required items to each game/practice/event
Fundraising
All cheerleaders will participate in fundraisers. We are permitted to host two fundraisers a school year and the more money we are able to raise, the lower the cost becomes for your cheerleader!
Parent assistance is appreciated for the success of these fundraisers
*note* due to the Global COVID-19 Pandemic fundraisers have been temporarily suspended
Removal from the team
Should the student be removed from the team, refunds on any payments made or the refunding of equipment and/or apparel purchased will not be issued. Any items purchased by the coach/school must be returned in the same condition they were given to the cheerleader. If the student is removed from or voluntarily leaves the team, she will be ineligible to try out for the team the following year.
By agreeing to be a part of the WAMS Cheerleading team you are committing to follow the rules set by your coach and by your school/district.
