Hi, My name is Parvathy Pillai. I will be teaching Environmental Systems this year. I graduated from Houston Baptist University with a major in Biology. In addition, I have a MBA from the University of St. Thomas. I am from Houston. This is my third year at North Shore Senior High School. I believe that everyone needs to be lifelong learners. In order to accomplish this, students must make real world connections to the subject that they are learning. I hope to do that in Physics.
The Environmental Systems course is a comprehensive science elective that explores the intricate relationships between Earth’s natural systems and human activity. Guided by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards, students investigate how the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere interact to sustain life. Throughout the course, students analyze ecosystem dynamics—such as food webs, biodiversity, and nutrient cycles—while evaluating the availability, use, and management of renewable and non-renewable energy resources. A heavy emphasis is placed on human impact, prompting students to study critical issues like pollution, waste management, conservation, and sustainability through mandatory laboratory investigations and outdoor fieldwork.
