Why did they wear purple?

Vice President Kamala Harris, former first lady Michelle Obama and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton donned purple, a color used traditionally as a symbol of bipartisanship — a mix of Republican red and Democratic blue — for Inauguration Day. The color also has historically symbolized nobility and was chosen by suffragettes in 1908, to represent “the royal blood that flows in the veins of every suffragette, the instinct of freedom and dignity.”
