Can't wait for an amazing school year!
In this classroom, everyone MUST know that you are capable!
We will discuss brain growth, and growth mind sets in this classroom. We will be challenged as well as embrace mistakes, because this is how WE grow. I say we because I am speaking of my self also. We are a team in this classroom (parents included) and we will all grow together.
I look forward to growing with you!
In our classroom, you will experience a variety of work environments depending on the day and the concept. Each one has a purpose and an expectation.
Whole Group- we learn together. You are present, engaged, eyes up and pencil moving, brain on. You are required to be actively engaged in the lesson and often called on using a randomizer to allow for accountability and opportunity for everyone.
Independent - You work SILENTLY on your own. This is your time to prove what YOU know without help. Trust yourself.
Partner - You and one other person think through problems together. Two brains one conversation, no cap, both of you are working 😄
Small group- A teacher-led group focused on a specific skill. This is targeted support, not a punishment, not a reward. Just the right help at the right time.
Stations - You will rotate through different activities. Each station has a job. You will know what to do and will not need to ask.
No matter the environment — Think It. Solve It. Prove It. always applies.
This year our classroom will use short instructional videos often as part of our learning. Students will have the option to watch a brief video lesson and take guided notes — either in class or at home.
Watching at home is never required, but students who choose to do so will walk into class already prepared and ready to jump straight into the fun part — hands-on activities, problem solving, and real world math.
Parents and guardians, you are a true partner in your student's learning and I am grateful for everything you do at home. I cannot wait to see what we accomplish together this year.
— Mrs. Tupou 😊
Students, you will be responsible for coming to class prepared. That looks like ...
Bringing supplies to class daily
Coming into class with an open mind and willing to learn and grow
Following classroom expectations and procedures (our classroom treatment agreement)
Keeping track of your growth
Keeping your math notebook organized its your most important resource
Students will create an interactive notebook and use it daily. It will include notes, and practice problems that will be used as a tool to complete in class as well as homework assignments. It is the students responsibility to take these home and return them daily to class. If it is lost, then you will be 100% responsible for creating a new one.
