1st Quarter

  • Unit 1: Operations with Decimals ( August 11-26)

  • Multiply and divide positive decimals

  • Write whole numbers in equivalent decimal forms (5 = 5.0 = 5.00)

  • Distinguish between a problem that requires multiplication and a problem that requires division

  • Balance a bank statement using decimals (not having a negative balance)

  • Unit 2: Real Number System ( August 29-September 9)

  • Classify numbers including counting/natural numbers, whole numbers, integers, rational numbers

  • Determine the opposite and absolute value of a given number

  • Locate and order positive and negative whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and percents on a number line

  • Place numbers in ascending/descending, increasing/decreasing, greatest/least, etc. order

  • Write division of whole numbers as a fraction

  • Convert between decimals, fractions, and percents to help order rational numbers

  • Unit 3: Operations with Fractions ( September 12-30)

  • Determine the reciprocal of a fraction

  • Understand that dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal

  • Multiply a quantity by a fraction less than 1 or greater than 1 to determine if the product is increased or decreased

  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions (including those without common denominators) improper fractions, and mixed numbers fluently

Unit 4: Integers and Coordinate Plane (October 11-15)

  • Identify the opposite and absolute value of a given number

  • Use absolute value and opposites (zero pairs) when applying integer rules

  • Order integers, fractions, and decimals on the number line.

  • Use models such as concrete objects, pictorial models, and number lines to add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers and connect the actions to algorithms

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers in mathematical and real world scenarios

  • Use ordered pairs of rational numbers (decimals and fractions included) to graph points in all four quadrants

  • Write a coordinate pair when given a graph

  • Identify x-coordinates and y-coordinates of various points on a graph
