Interactive Notebook
Each student will create an interactive notebook over the course of the school year. This INB will consist of skills and objectives that are taught during class. It is very important that you bring this book to class every day. We will use it on a daily basis. It will also be used as a homework tool. It will be your responsibility to keep up with your INB. If you lose it, you will be solely responsible for creating a new one. You will struggle in my class if you do not have your INB.
Make-Up Assignments
Everyday attendance is necessary in order to be successful in class. However, situations do arise when you have to miss school. It is the your responsibility to request any missed assignment due to an absence. Upon your return, you must fill out a make-up work request form in order to receive your assignments. If this is not done, then make-up work will not be given. Make-up request forms are located in the basket near the front door.
Grading Policy
Advanced:
Major Grades = 60%
Daily Grades = 40%
Regular:
Major Grades = 50%
Daily Grades = 50%
Major grades consist of benchmark exams, weekly test, projects, presentations, and formal compositions.
Daily grades consist of class work, quizzes, warm-ups, oral questioning, homework, and class participation.
Library
We will go to the library once every two to three weeks. You will be required to check out a library book.
Online Assignments
You will be required to complete some online assignments over the skills we will cover during class. Some class time will be provided for you to work on these assignments during class, but for the most part, they will be completed at home. Most online assignments will be found in Google Classroom. If you do not have access to technology at home, I will provide you with paper copies so that you may still complete your assignments. The same rules will still apply.
Homework
Homework is an extension of what we work on during class. When given online, homework is assigned on last “Blue” day of the week and due the following Thursday by 11:59 PM. We will, however, have some homework that is assigned throughout the week. It will depend on what we complete during class. Homework is given two weeks in a row, and then we take a week off. It is very important that you put your best effort into completing the homework assignments. Extra credit points may be earned when homework is completed early.
Supplies
You will need the following supplies for class:
• notebook paper
• blue/black pens
• pencils
• 2 composition notebooks
• scissors
• glue sticks
• markers/map pencils
Please note: I have some supplies in class that you may use. Once they run out, you will be required to bring your own supplies.
Expectations
I have often been told that my class is too hard and that I give too much work. I have high expectations for each of you. I want the BEST for you, and I am going to push you to be the best. You also have to want the best for yourself. This means that every day, we BOTH have to give 100% in order to make your success happen. Please do your part by participating and asking questions.
