My name is Mr. Lopez (or Coach Rocket), and I am incredibly excited to be back home at Galena Park Middle School! This year, I will be teaching 8th-grade Math and PE, as well as coaching Football, Basketball, and Track.

This is a milestone year for me, marking my 10th year in teaching and coaching, and I couldn’t think of a better place to spend it than right here. This community means the world to me. I grew up just down the road in Jacinto City, attended GPMS myself, and proudly graduated from GPHS. Go Yellowjackets!

After high school, I stayed local to earn my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) and later completed my Master’s degree at Lamar University.

My goal this year is to help our students win both in the classroom and on the field. Whether we are tackling tough math problems, staying active in PE, or competing in athletics, I believe in hard work, teamwork, and giving 100% effort every single day.

When I am not at school or on the field, I love spending time with my family. I am happily married to my wife, Samantha Lopez, and we have a wonderful daughter named Mia Lopez (you can see their pictures right to the left of this text!). We also have a silver lab named Dak who keeps us all very active. Our family is also growing—we are incredibly excited to be expecting another baby in February 2027!

I am looking forward to an amazing first year back at GPMS. Let's make it unforgettable!
