Coaches 

Coach Amarantos is a proud Galena Park alum from the class of 1989.  He graduated college from the University of Houston and began teaching and coaching in Galena Park ISD.  Coach Amarantos is entering his 26th year in education and his 21st in GPISD, with the last 6 years as the Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach of the fighting yellowjackets.  He has spent time at Summer Creek HS and Porter HS.  Spiro was married to his wife Kristi, who was a fixture at all of his games for over 25 years,  before she passed away.  He is the proud father of their two boys, Carter and Cooper.  Coach Amarantos loves traveling, fishing, listening to live music, and hanging out with friends and family.

Coach Whigham is a proud Galena Park alum. He graduated college from The University of Houston. Coach Whigham is entering his 29th year of coaching. The last 6 here at Galena Park, and 10th overall at Galena Park. He has coaching stints at Liberty HS, C.E. King HS, Huffman HS, Baytown Lee HS, and Baytown Sterling HS. Coach Whigham is married to his amazing wife Cindy and they have 5 children; Austin, Kristie, Caden, Cambrea, & Karlie.  He and his wife also have one grandson, Lance.

Coach Morales is a proud graduate of Texas State University. He also holds a master's degree in educational leadership from Lamar University. He is entering his 18th year of teaching and coaching. Coach Morales prides himself on building relationships with kids and setting high standards and goals. Coach Morales is engaged to be married to his beautiful fiancé Michelle. Together they have 5 children. 

Coach Alvarez. is the special teams coordinator, strength and conditioning coordinator, as well as an offensive line position coach. Off the field, he teaches boys physical education. He has been coaching since 2012 and started with the Galena Park Family in 2022. Coach Alvarez has been around football since 2003, starting in Clear Creek High School, followed by Kilgore College then he was blessed to play in the Big 12 at Iowa State University. He obtained his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University and his master's in educational leadership from Lamar University. His biggest accomplishment is spending time with his large family of 6. His wife is the agricultural science teacher at Galena Park High School, and he has 4 children who attend Galena Park ISD. God, Family, and Football are the way of life in his household. 

Devoted Christian, Husband, and Father of 2 kids, Clayton and Elena. I am an alumni of GPHS 2008, and of Houston BAPTIST University 2013. This is my 11th year coaching, 10th year coaching here at Galena Park. 

Coach Jonathan James is entering his 19th year of teaching and coaching. He is the head Boys Track coach and coaches the running backs. He was previously in the same role at Tomball High School (2017-2021) and Eisenhower High School (2012-2017).  He is married to Tynesha James and has 3 sons (Hunter, Chase, and Mason). He went to North Shore High School and was a 4-year Letterman in track at Stephen F Austin State University where he obtained his bachelor's degree.   

Coach Houston is entering his 9th year coaching at Galena Park High School. He grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.  Coach Houston previously coached at Northshore HS, where he was a member of the coaching staff for the 2015 State Champions. 

Ron Richmond is entering his 6th year at Galena Park HS and 36th year coaching overall.  Coach Rich won a State Championship in football as an assistant in Killeen in 1991.  He has been an Athletic Director/Head Football coach at Skidmore-Tynan HS and has coached in the quarterfinals twice as an offensive coordinator and twice as a defensive coordinator.  He has coached 7 All-State LB’s at PSJA North, Aldine Nimitz, Smithville and Troy.  He is currently coaching D-Line at Galena Park.  He has experience coaching every position on the football field.  Coach Rich is a veteran of US Army as an Airborne Infantryman and was on the 82nd Airborne Parachute Demonstration Team.  Coach Rich family includes Cody and his wife Halie and 2 beautiful grandkids, Judge 4 and Emmett almost 3.

Coach Anthony Brady joins the Yellow Jacket staff with several years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels. Coach Brady began his coaching career at division II power, Arkansas Tech University.  While at Tech, Coach Brady mentored the running backs and wide receivers under the expert tutelage of legendary head coach, Steve Mullins. Coach Brady also has extensive experience as a successful head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and special team’s coordinator. While at Manual Arts High School – Los Angeles, he engineered one of the most impressive program turnarounds in school history.  In just his second year, Coach Brady spearheaded the team’s surge towards earning a postseason berth for the first time in nearly twenty years and breaking a 12 – year in – conference losing streak. As an Associate Head Coach for Washington Prep -Los Angeles, Coach Brady, alongside California legend, Paul Knox, led the team to the City Semi-Finals and best record in several decades.  As the defensive coordinator, his unit was one of the premiere defenses in all of Los Angeles (DIII). Several of his players earned All-City honors, while one earned defensive player of the year honors.

Dustin M. Porterfield enters his first season at Galena Park HS after spending the last 3 seasons at Klein Collins HS. He spent the prior 6 years at Summer Creek HS. All years of coaching have been spent working with Cornerbacks and Safeties. Coach Porterfield graduated from North Shore HS, before moving on to Texas State University, where he is a proud Alum.

Coach Recio is entering his 13th year teaching and coaching  and his 4th at Galena Park HS. Coach Recio started his coaching career at Woodland Acres Middle School. He has had stops at Baytown Lee High School and Dayton High School. Coach Recio is married to his Wife Jessica and they have two sons Lorenzo(4) and Angelo (2). At Coach Recio's previous stops, he has Served as a Varsity WR's coach, Head Freshman Football Coach, and Head Baseball Coach. 

Coach Koether is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University. He is starting on his 3rd year at Galena Park and his 10th year overall. He has coached from 4A all the way to 6A. He is the assistant defensive line coach for the varsity and the freshmen offensive/defensive line coach as well as the Varsity throwers coach for shotput . He has also coached multiple district champions in shot put as well as having a 2x state powerlifting champion. He has coached football, basketball, track and field, as well as powerlifting. He is currently engaged to his beautiful  fiance' Gabriela Arcila. They're to be wed on December 31st.
