Meet the Directors
Mrs. Vanessa Boyce, Director
Mrs. Boyce grew up in the Rio Grande Valley. Although she did take ballet and jazz classes at 4, her dance experience truly began in Junior High and High School drill team. She was a member of the Memorial Middle School Strutters for 2 years, and served as Senior Lieutenant in 8th grade. She went on to perform with the P.S.J.A. High School Dance Team where she was a member for 3 years, and served as a Line Officer her Junior Year, and Captain her Senior year.
She continued her dance education at the University of Texas-Pan American by joining the Dance Team for 2 years, the Ballet Folklorico and the Modern Dance Company for 3 years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education. During this time she also taught and performed at Pointe' & Plie Dance Studio. She was also a part of the first arena football Dorados Dance Team for 2 seasons, where she also served as Captain.
After graduating college Mrs. Boyce moved to Houston to dance in the NBA. She danced for the Houston Rockets for 5 Seasons. During this time she got to dance in the NBA All Star Game and travel to Europe for a USO Tour. She spent a couple more years after that as dancer, Captain, and Director for the Houston Stallions Arena Football Dance Team.
She is extremely thankful to have the opportunity to now work with the talented dancers at Galena Park High School. In her 11 years with the Jacketeers she has experienced Grand Champion Awards, and trips to New York, Los Angeles, and Florida. This is her profession, passion, and purpose and she looks forward to year 12, giving the team new experiences, wonderful memories and growth in all aspects of life.
Ms. Alyza Vasquez, Assistant Director
Ms.Vasquez is from Houston, Texas. She began dancing in the 5th grade at Star System Dance Co. where she trained for 3 years in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, & Hip Hop. She attended both North Shore 9th grade Campus and North Shore Sr. High where she was a member of the North Shore Scarlets Dance Team for 4 years. Ms.Vasquez served as Social Officer Vice President for 2 years.
After Graduating High School, Ms.Vasquez attended San Jacinto College North for 2 years then transferred to Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
While at Texas State University, Ms.Vasquez was trained in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Improv, & Laban. Where she graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance Education.
After earning her degree, Ms.Vasquez was hired on as the new Assistant Director of the Galena Park High School Jacketeers. This will be her second complete year at Galena Park High School. Ms.Vasquez is looking forward to seeing students growth and development in class not only as dancers but as young adults.
