MEET MR TORRES!
In this video I walk you through our GPMS class procedures and some basic information about what it means to be part of our GPMS Guard. Hope this helps explain some things!
Born and raised in Houston Tx.
Mr. Torres has been involved with the sport of the arts since 2010; starting his journey within our very own GPHS Guard Program. After graduating from Galena Park High School, Mr. Torres returned to as a Guard technician for the 2013-14 school year, rebranded the guard program as the Aurous Guard, moved up as the Head Aurous Guard Director in the Fall of 2014, and has been working that position ever since. In 2019 Mr. Torres was also contracted as a choreographer and staff member for the Marching Auxiliaries/Visual FX Company; teaching and judging various guard programs and M.A. competitions.
Since Mr. Torres began working for GPHS, the Aurous Guard has received countless awards and recognition for their outstanding performances including;
Best Overall Color Guard at the Channel View Marching Band festival (2017)
5th place at the TCGC State Winter Guard Competition (2017)
Best Guard Overall at the Katy ISD Marching Festival (2018)
Superior Divisions involving student choreographed solo performances
Bronze medalists Varsity (Scholastic A-Class) and Jr. Varsity (Novice) at TCGC Area Championships (2022)
And most recently, Gold medalist Varsity (Scholastic A-Class) at the TCGC Area Championships (2023)
Under his direction, the Aurous Guard has built better ties with the community and has expanded to gain a middle school guard program at Galena Park Middle School In 2017.
Mr. Torres looks forward to continued success and development as the program grows and reaches new heights.
