Chevrolet’s Clever Challenge
Louis Chevrolet was his name
Overall best car builder in the game.
Unintentional was his fame
Like the racer he became
He juggled many things throughout his life
Like a clown juggling a ball for fame.
He was a gift born on Christmas day
A racer born with a talent
An entrepreneur with knowledge
Although he didn’t go to college.
Louis started to race at 11
He was as fast as the flash.
He started off small
And then grew like a flower on a sunny day.
He was a light bulb
With all of the good ideas he had.
And was as creative as a kid in encounters.
His brother died due to a racing incident
But with that mourn,
A new passion was born.
He gave up racing but was dedicated to his business.
In 1967 he brought to the world the Camaro
All the young people went crazy and wanted it.
So they got it.
Chevrolet's life came to an end in 1941.
But it wasn’t the end of his legacy.
The start of his career wasn't planned.
But his success was planned since the beginning of his life.
Chevrolet’s Clever Challenges
Louis Chevrolet founded the famous car company that bears his name - Chevrolet. He is an inspiration to many people and created a very good automobile company. Many people around the world own an automobile from the company Chevrolet. What people might not know is how Louis Chevrolet made his company so successful or how he started it. He started off as a race car driver and auto engineer. He could do many things, but racing was one of his best talents. During the 1900’s he even won a race against William C. Durant, another racer and entrepreneur. After Louis won Durant asked him to join the Buick racing team as well as designing engines for his company (Tate). Louis Chevrolet has held the legacy of a very known company not only that but he was also a very talented racer that worked step by step to get to where his company is right now.
Early life
Louis Chevrolet was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, on Christmas day, 1978. His father was a watchmaker and loved repairing every broken clock in their house. Some people even say that Louis might have even gotten his skills of building automobiles from his dad. Louis had six siblings and in 1887 the family was forced to move to a small town in France called Burgundy due to an economic crisis (Marcus). Because of the economic crisis, Louis was also forced to leave school at the young age of 11. Soon after, he got a job repairing bicycles which helped him discover a new passion in the racing industry (Marcus). He won many bicycle races and that helped a lot with his family’s economy. One day the managers at Darracq motors offered him a job as an automobile mechanic and without much hesitation, he took the job and he also continued racing with automobiles (Bolig). Louis Chevrolet won many races and he even set a few records. If Louis Chevrolet hadn’t dropped out of school at a young age he probably wouldn’t have discovered his passion for racing and who knows, maybe he wouldn’t have his really successful company of automobiles.
Beginning of Career
Most people may say that Louis Chevrolet started building automobiles because of his dad being a watchmaker. They say this because his dad loved fixing broken watches and other things around his house and they think that Louis may have gotten his inspiration from that. Although this may be correct, there is one specific thing that gave him the inspiration to start racing and building motors. That was his first job at a bicycle factory (Bolig). Building bicycles got him into racing with bikes and little by little he transitioned into racing with race cars. Building bikes also helped him develop an interest in building things, soon he started building motors for automobiles. The thing that started his career was racing because as he got better and started to be known all over the country many businessmen and manufacturers wanted Louis to represent their companies (Bolig). To be more specific Durant who was the owner of a very successful company started to be close with Louis. Soon, he offered him a job at a company called Buick where Louis started to build cars. Louis Chevrolet had to overcome many obstacles to get to where he is right now, for example having to leave school at the young age of eleven and also having to work at a young age.
Significant Accomplishments
Louis Chevrolet has accomplished many things throughout his life. He was an excellent racer, entrepreneur, and car engineer. Although Louis was a great racer, he is mostly known for his automobiles and many people don't know he was a racer. His accomplishments started when he was just eleven years old. He started to race with bicycles and won many races (Tate). Although he didn't plan to start racing, he did, and that was one of the most significant things that happened to him during his career. He also designed his own engine for Buick in 1909, it was an overhead-valve, six-cylinder engine (Bolig). This was also a significant part of his career as an automobile engineer because it was the first of many engines he built. In 1922, Louis and his brothers founded the Frontenac Motor Corporation. While he was running that company with his brothers, he was also racing and had many things on his plate. This didn’t keep him from doing the things he loved. Besides that, he even started making parts for Henry Ford's Model T (Tate). This was good because at the time, Henry Ford's motors were very popular and it helped increase the popularity of Louis Chevrolet's company. Besides having his own manufacturing company, he continued to race and enjoyed it a lot. Until one day his brother got killed while racing in a competition. Louis was devastated and decided to retire completely from racing (Bolig). This let him focus entirely on building cars. His company only grew from there and became the common automobile company that people see everywhere. Louis Chevrolet has been through many ups and downs but he overcame all the obstacles that life threw at him and became a really successful man that many people love and are grateful for to this day.
