Course Description
The Law Enforcement program of study focuses on occupational and educational opportunities associated with the development and enforcement of laws by various branches of law enforcement. This program includes the history, organization, and functions of local, state, and federal law enforcement. Students will understand the role of constitutional law at local, state, and federal levels, the U.S. legal system, criminal law, law enforcement terminology, and the classification and elements of crime.
Course Objectives
Provide students with a basic understanding of the role police officers play in our society.
Encourage students to recognize their role as productive citizens.

Daily Grades: 50%

Class Policies and Expectations
No profanity or disrespect is allowed in the classroom.
All students must maintain boundaries between themselves and others.
Respect one another.
All cell phones, smartwatches, and other personal electronic devices must be turned off and out of sight.
GPISD Cell Phone Policy
Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, a new Texas law (HB1481) requires school districts to limit student use of personal communication devices during the school day. To comply with HB 1481:
Personal Communication Devices Include:
Cell phones
Smartwatches
Tablets
Pagers or other electronic devices
Galena Park ISD’s Policy (Effective August 2025)
Students are encouraged to leave devices at home.
Devices must be powered off and securely stored away during the school day.
Use is not allowed during class, passing periods, or lunch.
Exceptions to the Rule
Students with an IEP or 504 Plan that requires device access.
Students with physician orders for medical needs.
Students with permission from a school administrator for safety or legal reasons.
School-issued devices specifically for instruction and learning.
Violations of HB 1481 and Consequences
1st Violation: Verbal Warning
2nd Violation: Secure the device in a locking pouch, unlocked at the end of the school day.
3rd Violation: Detention and/or ISS & secure device in a locking pouch.
4th Violation and Beyond: Consequences will be issued according to the Student Code of Conduct.
