Journalism

Journalism is an enrichment course that motivates students to improve their reading and writing skills, to extend their knowledge in all content areas (Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies), and to enhance their thinking skills. Journalism presents opportunities for students to distinguish writing and reading connections. It bridges the gap between school-sponsored writing and writing in the REAL world. Some of the journalism activities include: creating classroom newsletters, creating consumer ads, and publishing the Cougar Roar. These activities provide many opportunities for students to collaborate with their classmates and work as a team to achieve a common goal. It also helps to develop their social skills as they learn to accept and appreciate differences in others.
